Jamaican Outreach

Rebuilding continues after the devastation of Hurricane Melissa

Thank You!

Thank you to all who attended or donated, your generosity will make a difference in the communities of Westmoreland Jamaica!

From the Friars

Thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU! The friars cannot say that enough!

We are beyond moved and touched by your generosity at the Faith In Action Jamaican Outreach Gala in support of the many ministries we have here in Westmoreland, Jamaica. We are only able to do our work here on the island because of individuals such as yourself who selflessly donate both financially and volunteer their time when on the island.

As I read a text from a student from Get Kids to School Plus (one of our university students) during the gala, we have real world successes and daily impacts on those who we minister to and with; and now you have a direct hand in this positive impact and helping to change lives.

You can continue to follow what we do on our Facebook page (Mary, Gate of Heaven Church – Negril, Jamaica). When WIFI and current allows us, we live-stream our Sunday Mass and post updates on projects, ministries, and our day-to-day life as a Catholic community in Negril, Revival, Orange Hill, and Little London/Ebenezar all located in Westmoreland, Jamaica.

During evening prayer at the friary, we pray for our benefactors by name; please be assured you will be added to that prayer list and that we will pray for you and your families. Please also pray for us as we continue to work with and serve God’s holy people here in Jamaica.

Thank you again for your generosity the night of the gala and your continued support. We hope to see you on the island!

Until our paths cross again, as is said on the island, walk good and walk with God!

Bless up,
Fr. Colin King, OFM
Fr. Maxwell Klug, OFM
Br. Phil McCarter, OFM

Please consider continuing to support the friars in Jamaica. Continued donations can be sent online via Franciscan Friars Charities. Please select the “bread for the poor” fund; as this is the general donation fund that allows the friars to respond to various needs in their communities.

What’s going on in Negril Jamaica

Hurricane Melissa devastated the physical island of Jamaica, but it couldn’t destroy the faith and resiliency of the people. Although they have made great strides in “getting back to normal”, there is still much to do.

Father Colin King, Father Maxwell Klug, and Brother Phil McCarter have been working tirelessly with volunteers and local organizations to not only provide the basic necessities, such as meals and personal hygiene products; but they also continue to persevere to keep initiatives such as accessibility to education and a medical clinic alive!

Please consider helping keep the Saint Anthony Soup Kitchen, Saint Mary Health Clinic, Get Kids in School Program, Get Kids in School Plus Program, and the Faith Formation and School operating.

We hope you will come join us – and bring friends – in a fun filled evening that will celebrate their progress, their continued efforts, and their beautiful dreams for the future! If you cannot make it consider giving a donation. Every penny of your donation will go directly to the Franciscan Friars in Negril to sustain their Franciscan pastoral care, sacramental ministry and daily accompaniment.

Many thanks!
